Numerous extension initiatives are being run by Cagayan State University Gonzaga in keeping with the campus's specialized program on Bamboo-Based Agroforestry.

Apayao Provincial Government proposed to establish a bamboo nursery as part of their Agroforestry efforts and Bamboo-related programs, in addition to the use of Bamboo in the rehabilitation of large areas in depleted land. The creation of a Bamboo plantation will meet the area's growing demand for Bamboo and will give the locals more options for employment.

Accordingly, the Provincial Government of Apayao and Cagayan State University Gonzaga came to an agreement to create the Bambusetum in Marag Valley, Luna Apayao. Both parties understand how crucial collaboration is in achieving management goals that are in-line with the demands of their respective mandates and programs.

On September 16 and 23, a 2-day Planning Workshop on the establishment of Bambusetum in Apayao was held. This was followed by a ceremonial planting on September 28, 2022. This was participated by the different agencies in the Municipality namely: Apayao State University, PPGO-ENRD, BLGU-Marang, P-OAS, GSB, DTI, PACCD, GSO, PASSO DOT, ASC, DA, PGO-Planning Office, green guards, foresters, and Marag Barangay officials.

Further, participants from the Provincial Government of Apayao and other organizations received training in bamboo planting. For the Apayao Bambusetum, 24 distinct bamboo species were planted in Marag Valley, Luna Apayao.
