Cagayan State University-Gonzaga in collaboration with Isabela State University- Echague, LGU- Gonzaga, DA-BAR and DA-National Livestock Programs conducted a Training on Swine Production, Meat Processing, Packaging and Labeling, Entrepreneurial Development and Financial Management and Book keeping last June 26-27, 2023 at the Cagayan State University- Gonzaga, Conference Hall.
The training was attended by select hog raisers, fisherfolk, farmer leaders, and cooperative members of Gonzaga and the teams of the partner agencies.

The training aimed to promote and adopt appropriate technologies in swine production specifically in developing a business model for a community- based commercialization of technologies in swine production, enterprise development and to create additional income for the farmers and stakeholders through meat processing, packaging and labeling with proper entrepreneurial development and book keeping techniques.

In the program, Dr. Romar Banadero, the Campus Extension Coordinator of CSU-Gonzaga, welcomed the participants and introduced the main center of the program which is the Development of Sustainable Livestock- Based Rural Enterprise in Cagayan Valley. A CHED-ISU-LGU industry partnership in technology, commercialization, and entrepreneurship development with two components the: (1) Sheep Technology Production and Commercialization towards Rural Enterprise Development and; (2) Swine Technology.

Thereafter, Prof. Anna Marie M. Bahala of ISU- Echague and the Project Leader also shared that one of the goals of the project is to have an enterprise that’ll be used for Income Generating Project. According to her, the training shall provide the trainees and beneficiaries a jump-start in their entrepreneurial journey to Swine Production.

In the training, topics on Swine Production, Breeding, Feeding Nutrition, Herd Health Management and Bio- Security Measure were tackled. Bookkeeping, financial transactions in Hog raising, enterprise management, packaging, labeling and demonstration on Label Designs, food hygiene and sanitation were likewise discussed.

The participants also did hands-on activity in Longganisa making.

On the second day, CSU and ISU teams monitored the members of San Jose Fisherfolk Association and CAMBASS Agrarian Cooperative in barangay Cabiraoan as beneficiaries of chicken and sheep.
