CSU-Gonzaga’s dishes land 3rd in Food Solution contest

CSU-Gonzaga’s niche-based food products named ‘Machiko Pillows/Machiko Sheets,’ won 3rd in the Food Solution contest held on June 8 during the celebration of the 45th anniversary of CSU. The product developers are Prof. Rhea Yagin and Prof. Shiena Marie Gaňo.

Machiko Pillows/Machiko Sheets were created out of a Bamboo variety called ‘Machiko,’ known as the best-tasting shoot of all bamboos that is vastly produce in CSU-Gonzaga as one of its niche products.

Machiko bamboo shoots are highly nutritious and delicious. They are low in calories and fats, making an excellent choice for those watching their weight. Adding to their nutritive components, the Machiko shoots are harvested from the young shoots without causing harm to the over-all plant, making it a renewable resource. By opting to use bamboo shoots pasta, you can enjoy a delicious meal while reducing carbon footprint.

Further, CSU-Gonzaga's Machiko Pillows/Machiko sheets are the campus's innovation on its niche product, Bamboo, to address the goals of the United Nations Sustainable Development to end hunger and achieve food security.

Indeed, these products are the pride of CSU-Gonzaga.
