Mrs. Lyle Sumer, faculty member of the College of Agriculture at Cagayan State University-Gonzaga, secured 2nd Place for Best Research-Based Technology Pitch at the 2025 North Luzon Innovation and Technology Summit held from April 23 to 25 at Newton Plaza Hotel Convention Center, Baguio City.
Sumer presented her innovative research titled “Formulation and Production of Bamboo Charcoal Fertilizer,” under the agriculture category during the North Luzon Smart Solution Pitch Competition: Addressing MSME Challenges.
The research was in collaboration with other researchers from the College of Agriculture namely: Mrs. Gerlie Hardy, Mr. Marvin Baloloy and Mr. Jeff Opena.
Organized by the Department of Science and Technology – Cordillera Administrative Region (DOST-CAR), the summit carried the theme “Leveraging Technology Transfer and Commercialization for Smart and Sustainable Communities.” It gathered researchers, educators, and professionals from State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) across regions 1, 2, and 3.
Her research promotes sustainable farming practices by introducing bamboo charcoal as a natural, eco-friendly fertilizer—an innovation aimed at supporting local MSMEs in enhancing productivity while reducing environmental impact.
