Cagayan State University (CSU) formally inked a partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Sta. Teresita to utilize the community radio station DWTS 99.5 MHz FM – Timek Ti Sta. Teresita as a platform for disseminating the campus’s projects and programs to the community.
The signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was held on December 15 at the MABRIC Conference Hall, CSU–Gonzaga Campus. The agreement aims to strengthen information dissemination about CSU’s initiatives in Instruction, Research, Extension, and Production (IREP) through accessible, community-based radio programming.
The MOA signing was led by CSU Officer-in-Charge President Dr. Arthur G. Ibanez. Representing Mayor Rodrigo De Gracia, Mr. Edison B. Belen, Private Secretary of the Mayor’s Office, signed the agreement on behalf of the LGU of Sta. Teresita. Witnessing the event were Dr. Froilan A. Pacris, Jr., Campus Executive Officer of CSU–Gonzaga, and Mr. Jeffrey V. Tactac, Station Manager and Information Officer of LGU Sta. Teresita.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Pacris emphasized that the partnership presents a valuable opportunity for all CSU–Gonzaga researchers and extensionists across colleges to actively disseminate research findings, programs, and projects to the wider community. He noted that the campus has numerous initiatives that deserve greater public awareness, and that community radio is an effective medium for reaching grassroots audiences.
In his message, Dr. Ibanez commended the initiative and expressed his appreciation to the LGU of Sta. Teresita for the collaboration, particularly for generously providing CSU–Gonzaga with free airtime. He also shared his hope that the campus will be able to establish a similar partnership with the LGU of Gonzaga through its own community radio, further expanding CSU’s reach and strengthening its community engagement efforts.
Under the partnership, CSU–Gonzaga will implement the TANGKIRAN CARES Project: School-On-the-Air Community Radio Program, which aims to produce and air educational radio programs, including extension initiatives of the different colleges. The program seeks to promote awareness of sustainable agriculture, livelihood development, environmental restoration, and other community development concerns, while strengthening CSU’s extension services by reaching a broader audience through the LGU-owned radio station.
