The Cagayan State University-Gonzaga campus came alive on December 27, 2024, as alumni from various batches gathered for the 14th Grand Alumni Homecoming, an event marked by nostalgia, resilience, and renewed commitment to community building.
Dr. Froilan A. Pacris, Jr., CEO of CSU-Gonzaga, delivered a heartfelt welcome speech, highlighting the significant physical and academic transformations in campus. These included the development of the Mangrove and Bamboo Research and Innovation Center and the Bamboo Sanctuary. He emphasized his administration’s mission to position the campus's Bamboo-Based Agroforestry niche as a key driver in the local arena through partnerships with national and international collaborators. Dr. Pacris also commended the diverse accomplishments of alumni, including professionals, farmers, and single mothers, whose successes continue to honor CSU-Gonzaga's legacy.
Dr. Louie S. Sunico, Batch 1981 and President of the CSU-Gonzaga Alumni Association, expressed excitement over the return of the event after a pandemic-induced hiatus. Despite the rain dampening plans for a parade, Dr. Sunico praised the efforts of alumni in fostering camaraderie and support for their alma mater. He highlighted the raffle draw for a Toyota Raize as one of the event’s key moments, underscoring its contribution to campus needs.
Dr. Recto A. Aguirre, University Director for Alumni and Placement, delivered a message on behalf of the Officer-In-Charge of the Office of the University President, Dr. Arthur G. Ibanez, Asean Engineer, reminisced with alumni about their shared history, reminding them that CSU-Gonzaga is not just an institution but a home where dreams were nurtured, friendships were formed, and futures were built.
Guest speaker Atty. Alden Francis C. Gonzales, Batch 1982 and Senior Partner at Divina Law, delivered an inspirational address. He urged alumni to leverage the values and lessons learned during their high school years to uplift others and shape the future of their communities and the next generation.
A highlight of the evening was the awarding of distinguished alumni for their achievements:
• Atty. Alden Francis C. Gonzales (Batch 1982): Senior Partner, Divina Law
• Brigadier General Rosendo Jun C. Abad, Jr. (Batch 1987): Commander, Special Forces Regiment (Airborne), Philippine Army
• Dr. Minerva S. Paz, DND (Batch 1977): Head Dentist 5, Department of Dental Medicine, Cagayan Valley Medical Doctors
The event began with a Eucharistic celebration led by Fr. Jonald I. Banatao, Batch 1990, setting the tone for a meaningful reunion. Despite the torrential rain, the warmth and excitement of the attendees shone brightly, culminating in loud cheers, batch photos, and joyous reunions.
The grand prize winner of the Toyota Raize raffle, Ms. Erica Cabasug, capped off a memorable day of celebration and giving back to the university.
The 14th Grand Alumni Homecoming embodied CSU-Gonzaga’s enduring spirit of excellence, camaraderie, and shared legacy, inspiring all who attended to carry forward its mission of service and achievement.
