OIC President of Cagayan State University, Dr. Arthur G. Ibanez, ASEAN Engr., led a site visit and dialogue with farmers of Barangay Sta. Clara, Gonzaga, Cagayan, on October 24, to discuss a shared direction for the CSU’s 504-hectare land property located in the Cadubsangan area. The meeting, held at the Administration Building Conference Hall, aimed to strengthen collaboration among CSU, the local government, and farmer settlers toward sustainable land use and community development.
Joining the dialogue were Dr. Froilan A. Pacris, Jr., CEO of CSU-Gonzaga Campus; Engr. Matthew Custodio, University LUDIP Focal Person; Hon. Louie Savedra, Punong Barangay of Sta. Clara, farmer settlers, Ms. Myraly Marcos, Campus Extension coordinator, Mr. Marvin Baloloy, Campus Forest reserve focal person; Mr. Arman Acosta Jr., Campus LUDIP Focal Person; Dr. Jayrome Butay, Dean of the College of Agriculture, and Ms. Mary May Baclig, AO.
In his message, Dr. Ibanez emphasized the importance of a unified effort to secure the community’s future, noting that inclusive dialogue is key to achieving lasting progress. Dr. Pacris also expressed CSU-Gonzaga’s full support for initiatives that promote development, order, and long-term stability in Cadubsangan. Meanwhile, Barangay Captain Savedra reaffirmed the barangay’s commitment to cooperate closely with the university and residents in realizing shared goals.
During the open forum, the farmer settlers expressed their aspirations for security, livelihood, and clear direction for their land and families. The dialogue concluded with a mutual agreement among all parties to maintain open communication and continue working together toward a peaceful settlement, sustainable development, and a secure future for the community.
The next steps will focus on formal planning and documentation, ensuring that the partnership between CSU and the farmers of Sta. Clara continues to move forward in unity and purpose.
