CSU-Gonzaga RDE team leads training for BNAS’s Project UPLIFT

n collaboration with other academic institutions, a team from Cagayan State University-Gonzaga’s Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) offices conducted a training session for the Baggao National Agricultural School (BNAS) as part of their Project UPLIFT (Upgrading Agriculture Through Latest Innovation in Farming Technology) on March 20, 2025. CSU-Gonzaga team led the training as speakers and trainers.

The training aimed to enhance educators’ knowledge and skills in modern agricultural practices, with a focus on bamboo and dragon fruit production. A total of 25 BNAS teachers participated in the event, gaining insights into sustainable farming techniques and their economic potential.

CSU-Gonzaga faculty members who led the training included:
• Myraly L. Marcos, the campus extension coordinator, talked about the CSU-Gonzaga RDE programs and the economic benefits of Bamboo
• Mylene R. Ermitanio, the campus research coordinator, discussed about the Bamboo Species, Research Initiatives, and Best Practices in Bamboo Production
• Marvin Baloloy, the campus MARBRIC coordinator, discussed about Bamboo Production, Cultivation, and Management;
•Dr. Jayrome S. Butay, Dean of the College of Agriculture, talked about the Dragon Fruit Production

The speakers delivered discussions on the economic viability of bamboo and dragon fruit farming, emphasizing best practices in cultivation and management. The training combined theoretical lectures with hands-on activities, allowing participants to engage in practical exercises on bamboo and dragon fruit propagation.

Participants appreciated the training’s relevance and interactive approach, noting its potential impact on agricultural education and local farming practices. With the support of CSU-Gonzaga’s agricultural faculty, the launch of Project UPLIFT at BNAS highlights the crucial role of academic institutions in fostering agricultural innovation.
