Scholars of Senator Sonny Angara from CSU-Gonzaga brought home various awards during the Angara Barkada League 2025 held at the CSU-Carig campus on May 19-21, demonstrating their talent, teamwork, and determination across various sporting events.
The annual Angara Barkada League, a three-day sporting spectacle, saw an inspiring performance from student-athletes representing Cluster 1, which includes Gonzaga, Lallo, and Aparri campuses. The event brought together Senator Sonny Angara’s scholars and faculty members, who also served as coaches, for a celebration of sportsmanship, fitness, and unity.
Leading the list of achievements was the Basketball Men’s team from District 1, which clinched the championship title under the leadership of Coach John Eric Santiago. In badminton, the athletes also stood out, with the Men’s team taking 1st place and the Women’s team securing 2nd place, guided by Coach Marie Paz Rico.
In the Zumba competition, which was contested per campus, CSU-Gonzaga's performance earned them a 2nd place finish, thanks to the coordination of Coach Jerome Karl Sabug.
Track events also highlighted individual excellence during the Fun Run, with Laurence Rayon taking 2nd place and Querobin Altarejos coming in 5th in the men's division. On the women’s side, Camille Lacambra and Joana Sacayanan finished 3rd and 4th, respectively.
Adding to the list of accomplishments, the Volleyball team from District 1 secured the 1st runner-up position under the guidance of Coach Evelyn Saribay, who also served as the campus sports coordinator.
Dr. Saribay praised the dedication of the athletes, particularly the team from Gonzaga. “This year’s performance is a result of their sacrifices, commitment, and passion,” she said. “Even on Saturdays, they were willing to practice. The collaboration among the three campuses really contributed to this improved performance.”
