Cagayan State University-Gonzaga’s dance pair, Jhon Lloyd Marcelo and Shena Palor, achieved recognition after securing multiple awards in the PDSF 4th Quarter National Dancesport Championship held on October 25–26, 2025, at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, Malate, Manila.
Competing in the Standard Category, the duo earned 3rd Place in the Couple Grade Dance 2 in Waltz and Quickstep. They also garnered 6th Place in the Couple Grade C Waltz, Tango, and Quickstep.
The pair was trained by Mr. Jerome Sabug, who played a significant role in developing their discipline, artistry, and competitive readiness.
Mr. Sabug shared that the team had only a short period to prepare and process their registration for the competition. However, with the strong support of the university and campus officials, they were able to overcome the challenges and push through.
“We are grateful to our CEO, Dr. Froilan A. Pacris, Jr., for his support and encouragement to the team, along with our University Sports Director, Dr. Giovanni Morales. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Evelyn Saribay, our Campus Sports Coordinator, for her guidance and unwavering presence throughout our training,” he expressed.
The national event brought together dancers from State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and private tertiary institutions throughout the Philippines, making the competition a stage for both rising and seasoned dance athletes. Amid tough competition, Marcelo and Palor stood out through their grace, precision, and dedication to their craft.
Marcelo is a 4th-year Bachelor of Science in Criminology student, while Palor is a 4th-year Bachelor of Secondary Education student at CSU-Gonzaga.
CSU-Gonzaga proudly congratulates Jhon Lloyd Marcelo and Shena Palor for their outstanding achievement and for bringing honor to the university at the national level.
