Continuously realizing one of their mandates to promote inclusivity in the academe, the Gender and Development office of CSU-Gonzaga conducted an orientation to faculty of instruction on August 12, 2024 focusing in integrating gender sensitivity in instructional materials.
The activity highlighted the importance of revising and creating instructional materials that reflect diverse gender perspectives, ensuring that education serves as a catalyst for social change and gender equality.
In her opening message, Mrs. Rizzalou Garma, the campus GAD coordinator, shared her appreciation to the regular and part-time faculty members for attending the activity. She encouraged them to make the most of the event and be mindful of the important role they play in shaping the minds and skills of students through the contents they teach and the language they use for instruction.
Furthermore, Mrs. Mary May Baclig, the campus AO and the representative of the CEO, congratulated the GAD office for the initiative of conducting the event. She lauded the relevance of the activity to the participants and the university especially in creating an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
“We hope that this will contribute to our goal of having a university that does not only provide quality education, but also promote inclusivity- a university that serves as a home, a safe space for everyone, regardless of gender preference,” AO Baclig, shared.
Meanwhile, Dr. Wendy Garma, the PCW Resource Focal Person, discussed Gender Responsive Instructional Materials and Gender Fair Language.
