Carrying out the university’s internationalization initiative, Cagayan State University-Gonzaga hosted a lecture, discussion on internationalization focused in fostering academic and research collaboration with Taiwan and Japan on September 3 at the MABRIC Conference Hall. The event brought together researchers, extensionists and academic leaders from various CSU campuses to engage in discussions with guests from universities in Japan and Taiwan.
The highlight of the event was a keynote address by Professor Ichiro Sugimoto, Dean of the Faculty of International Liberal Arts at Soka University, Japan. In his lecture on "The Importance of Internationalization in Higher Education," Professor Sugimoto emphasized the need for global academic cooperation to meet the evolving demands of higher education. He discussed emerging trends, challenges, and strategies related to internationalization, particularly focusing on the experiences and best practices of Soka university in Japan.
Other esteemed guests from Taiwan and Japan also participated, including Mr. Prashant Gupta, an International Doctorate Student at Soka University; Ms. Hui-Kuei Alice Hsieh, Section Chief of Foreign Language Teaching and Learning at Deh Yu University, Taiwan; Ms. Hsinju Christine Liu, Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Center of Fo Guang University, Taiwan; and Dr. Kuo Jung Chao, Director of the Foreign Affairs Division at National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan. They introduced their respective universities, highlighting their internationalization initiatives, programs and best practices.
The activity likewise featured discussions on global research collaboration, focusing on successful models and shared experiences. CSU faculty members had the opportunity to present their research proposals and exploring potential avenues for collaboration with the guests.
Furthermore, various messages of support were delivered by the Local Chief Executive herself and other university officials.
Honorable Marilyn S. Pentecostes, the Municipal Mayor of Gonzaga, was optimistic and supportive of the university’s path to attain a globally relevant stature.
“I assure the CSU-Gonzaga family that the Local Government Unit of Gonzaga is supportive of all its endeavors. Together, we aim to empower learners to thrive in a global arena,” Hon. Pentecostes, said.
Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension, Dr. Junel B. Guzman, who represented the OIC President during the event, also noted the importance of such initiative.
"CSU has a strong academic environment, and through international collaborations, our students and faculty members will have the chance to immerse themselves in new cultures and languages.”
Representing the CEO of the Gonzaga campus, Dr. Froilan A. Pacris, Jr., his Administrative Officer, Ms. Mary May Baclig, also lauded the significance of the event saying that international cooperation brings potential discoveries which will benefit not only the academic communities but also the society at large.
As part of their cultural appreciation experience, the guests were toured in the CSUG’s Bamboo Sanctuary, Campus Mangrove and Bamboo Research and Innovation Center and the Mangrove site in Barangay Caroan.
