Cagayan State University (CSU)-Gonzaga held its annual Campus Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) In-House Review on October 4 at the MABRIC Conference Hall, themed “Tangkiran Innovations: Advancing Bamboo-Based Agroforestry Research, Development, and Extension towards Globalization.”

Dr. Froilan A. Pacris, Jr., the Campus Executive Officer opened the event by challenging researchers and extensionists to move beyond traditional academic outputs.

“I would like to challenge our researchers and extensionists to implement research projects that do not just end in terminal reports and publications but should end with utilization, commercialization or possible collaboration," he said. "RDE projects should promote positive changes in communities, uplift people’s lives, improve classroom management, and develop software programs to ease transactions in offices, among others.”

Dr. Pacris emphasized the importance of impact, utilization, and agricultural collaboration in research efforts, urging participants to focus on projects with practical applications in their communities.

Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension (RDE), Dr. Junel Guzman, echoed this sentiment, stressing that research utilization is a key consideration in the approval and funding process.

“Research should begin with a needs assessment, and once those needs are identified, the outcomes should be extended into the community for possible utilization," Dr. Guzman explained. He also highlighted the pathway of commercialization, encouraging researchers to protect and commercialize their outputs, whether they are products, processes, or technologies.

The event showcased both completed and ongoing projects, with a total of 10 completed and 20 ongoing researches and extension programs across areas such as Social, Experimental, Technology-based RDE programs, and Extension initiatives.

An esteemed panel, including Dr. Junel Guzman, Dr. Gilbert Magulod, Jr., Dr. Josie Bas-ong, Ms. Chonalyn Pascua, Ms. Edita Sunio, and Mr. Vladimir Caliguiran, assessed the presentations, ensuring that the projects align with the university's goals of promoting impactful, community-driven research that supports local and global development.

The event highlighted CSU-Gonzaga’s commitment to fostering innovative bamboo-based agroforestry research, positioning the university as a leader in sustainable development and agricultural research.
