Officials of Cagayan State University–Gonzaga, led by CEO Dr. Froilan A. Pacris, Jr., joined the vibrant opening of Raniag ti CSU 2025 at the CSU Andrews Campus on December 2. As part of the festivity, CSU-Gonzaga participated in the Search for Lantern Parade Competition, showcasing not just artistry but also its advocacy, bamboo innovation.
At the heart of the celebration stood CSU-Gonzaga’s masterpiece lantern, a towering creation anchored on the timeless symbol of the Filipino countryside: the bahay kubo. Painstakingly crafted from bamboo, the lantern highlights the campus’s niche product while narrating a deeper story of identity and resilience.
The bamboo-built bahay kubo represents the strength of a community that knows how to bend without breaking—much like bamboo swaying with the wind. Its form echoes CSU-Gonzaga’s own journey of endurance, having weathered storms, challenges, and uncertainties, yet continuing to rise stronger for its people.
Perched above the roof is a radiant star, casting warm light over the scene. Inside the humble hut lies a tender image of the Infant Jesus, turning the bamboo home into a symbolic manger. This thoughtful placement draws hearts back to the essence of Christmas—a reminder that greatness is born from humility, and hope shines brightest in simplicity.
Extending from the corners of the bahay kubo are gleaming lights that form a magnificent star when viewed from above. Like a celestial compass, this star symbolizes guidance, faith, and unwavering hope, illuminating paths even through the darkest nights.
Together, the glowing star and the bamboo house embody the true message of the season: finding light amid darkness, courage amid challenges, and unity amid adversity. As the lantern brightens the night sky, CSU-Gonzaga continues to illuminate its community with resilience and purpose, proving once again that its light, like bamboo, stands firm and shines on.
