Cagayan State University-Gonzaga Campus bested five other universities and colleges in the region with its jingle entitled "Best Life Ever," encapsulating the theme “Siyensiya, Teknolohiya, at Inobasyon: Kabalikat sa Matatag, Maginhawa at Panatag na Kinabukasan,” during the Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) on September 27, 2024, held at SM City Tuguegarao.
Twelve student-performers of the Indayog Performing Artists (IPA) received individual certificates and a P20,000 cash prize for winning the Science and Technology (S&T) Jingle Competition. The jingle was composed by Mr. Jun Clifford M. Mape and arranged by Mr. Jerick Morla.
In an interview, Mr. Mape said that the song was inspired by the impact of the projects on campus partnered with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Department of Agriculture (DA).
In addition, Mr. Mape said that the title of the jingle, Best Life Ever, is based on an assembly that discussed how a fulfilling life can be achieved.
Reflected in the lyrics, he also added that a fulfilling life can be achieved through S&T, as long as it prioritizes the Filipino family.
"We ensured that the lyrics reflected the family in S&T. S&T can only then empower communities if it satisfies the needs of Filipino families," Mr. Mape said in a blend of English and Filipino.
In an interview with the group, the student-participants said that they cannot explain their joy for winning the competition.
"Out of all the contests in which we participated, this is the first time we cannot fully explain our joy," the participants told Paragon correspondent.
Mr. Mape extended his gratitude to the Campus Executive Officer, Dr. Froilan A. Pacris Jr., for boosting the morale of the team. He also thanked Dr. Jeffrey V. Obedoza for providing the best resources for the costumes and props, Prof. Edison A. Villena for assuring the quality of the lyrics, and Ma'am Mary May Baclig for the logistics.
