The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson and Chair-Designate of the Cagayan State University (CSU) Board of Regents, Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis, visited CSU-Gonzaga on August 9, 2025, inspiring students and faculty to strive for excellence and make the most of the opportunities provided by the campus.

Dr. Agrupis, accompanied by CHED Region 02 Regional Director Dr. Julieta M. Paras, CESO III; Career Executive Service Board Chairperson and University Consultant Dr. Urdujah G. Alvarado; CSU OIC President Dr. Arthur G. Ibanez; ASEAN Engineer; Mr. Kevin Vicente, representative of Gonzaga Mayor Mrs. Rellie Dalmaceda; and members of the CSU Board of Regents, was warmly welcomed by the CSU-Gonzaga community.

During her visit, Dr. Agrupis toured the campus’ Mangrove and Bamboo Research and Innovation Center (MABRIC) facilities, including the tissue culture laboratory, the DOT-accredited Bamboo Sanctuary, and the Tangkiran Mart. CSU-Gonzaga also showcased its locally produced engineered bamboo products.

In his welcome remarks, CSU-Gonzaga CEO Dr. Froilan A. Pacris, Jr. shared that the MABRIC building and facilities were inspired by the National Bio Research and Innovation Center of Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), constructed during Dr. Agrupis’ presidency there. He acknowledged the support of former CSU President Dr. Urdujah Alvarado and the leadership of the current OIC President in making the project a reality.
“MABRIC houses state-of-the-art laboratories, including genetics and molecular microbiology labs, as well as a program management office,” Dr. Pacris said. Addressing Dr. Agrupis, he added, “Your visit is not just a privilege but an inspiration for us. As we strive to uphold the highest standard of quality education, your leadership serves as a guiding light for our academic community.”

In her message, Dr. Agrupis expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome, which she described as a display of love from her fellow Cagayanos. She praised Gonzaga for having a “very good education ecosystem” and encouraged students to dream big.
“Do not be distracted by what you see around you—just focus on your studies. It is your choice to excel. Agkakalaing kayo nga kanayon (always strive for greatness). Faculty in this campus, agkakalaing kayo,” she said, assuring them that her office is open for any initiative that could further strengthen the quality of education in the area.

The visit was attended by CSU Vice Presidents, campus executive officers from various CSU campuses, university directors, faculty and staff, students, and representatives from the PNP Gonzaga.

The day concluded with a fellowship lunch prepared by the CSU-Gonzaga Tangkiran community, fostering camaraderie and solidarity among the guests and hosts.
