A monitoring and evaluation team from the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) and the Agricultural Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (ACEF) conducted an on-site monitoring and evaluation visit for the project titled “Increasing the Availability of Quality Planting Materials of Selected Horticultural Crops Through Tissue Culture Propagation in Cagayan” on October 27–28, 2025, at Cagayan State University–Gonzaga.

The monitoring team was composed of Ms. Karlene Kay Revita and Ms. Hanna Nicole Silva from BAR, Ms. Jovita Elocre and Ms. Roselle Medillo from ACEF PMO, and Ms. Nieves Andres from ACEF RCU.

The visit commenced with a courtesy call to Dr. Arthur G. Ibanez, University President of Cagayan State University, and Dr. Froilan A. Pacris, Jr., Campus Executive Officer of CSU–Gonzaga and Project Leader of the said research initiative. Following the courtesy visit, the project team presented the project’s current accomplishments, during which discussions and clarifications were held to address observations and recommendations for project improvement.

The team also conducted several on-site activities, including:
1. Reporting on updates and accomplishments of the project;
2. Inspection of facilities such as the Tissue Culture Laboratory, nursery, and techno-demonstration area within the campus; and
3. Field visits to the sites of Farmers’ Cooperative Associations (FCAs) and farmer beneficiaries.

Among the areas visited were the farm of Mr. Orlando B. Rasos, a farmer beneficiary in Gonzaga, Cagayan, and the Mabuhay Agri Cooperative in Piat, Cagayan.

Supporting the project's implementation are Ms. Myraly Marcos and Dr. Jayrome Butay, who serve as Study Leaders. The project aims to enhance the availability and accessibility of quality planting materials for selected horticultural crops in Cagayan through tissue culture propagation.

The activity strengthened collaboration among BAR, ACEF, and CSU in promoting sustainable and science-based agricultural development, contributing to the improvement of local horticultural production and farmer livelihood in the province.
