The leaders of the Institute of Environmental Governance (IEG) of Isabela State University (ISU) and members of the Tanggol Kalikasan, Inc. and participating LGU Department Heads of Cagayan and Isabela in the IEG Environmental Governance Training, visited CSU-Gonzaga and its Bamboo resources on July 11, 2024 for a benchmarking activity.
The team visited the Bamboo Sanctuary, Bamboo Gene Banks and Gallery, Mangrove and Bamboo Research and Innovation Center and the Mangrove site in Caroan, Gonzaga. They were toured by the Campus Extension Coordinator, Mr. Marvin Baloloy and Dr. Jayrome Butay, Dean of the College of Agriculture.
The activity is part of their learning and development exchange visit to selected sites to examine the kind of learning opportunities that the participants will get.
Recognizing Cagayan State University as partner of Tanggol Kalikasan, Inc. in managing IEG in the Province of Cagayan, the members of TK and IEG awarded a Memorabilia to CSU. On behalf of the OIC University President, Engr. Arthur G. Ibaňez, the memorabilia was received by Dr. Froilan A. Pacris, Jr., CEO of CSU-Gonzaga and Atty. Chrizller Meg H. Salamat, the University Head of Legal Office.
The partnership of CSU and TK in managing IEG in Cagayan caters training needs of local government officials and civil society organizations in the province of Cagayan in the areas of environmental management, protection, conservation and integrated area planning.
Furthermore, Isabela State University (ISU) also partnered with IEG to cater the said purpose to heads of LGU organizations in the province of Isabela.
At present, there are twenty-eight IEG Centers in the Philippines (18 in Luzon, 3 in Visayas and 6 in Mindanao) which facilitates three levels of program which include mentoring, coaching, legal clinic, monitoring and evaluation.
IEG partnered with state university and colleges (SUCs) all over the country to sustainably provide the needed capacity of LGUs towards extensive implementation of environmental laws. Also, IEG is a strategic response to the ever-increasing demand for capacity building of Local Government Units (LGUs).
