The College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) of Cagayan State University, Gonzaga, brought pride to the campus after its student researchers and mentor secured 2nd-Place Best Undergraduate Thesis and 2nd-Place Best Mentor during the University’s Search for Best Undergraduate Thesis and Best Mentor 2026, held virtually on April 27.
The university-wide competition carried the theme, “Research Excellence Driving Sustainable Development and Institutional Impact,” and featured undergraduate researches from all CSU campuses in three categories: Experimental/Applied Research, Technological Research, and Social Research.
CCJE received the recognition under the Social Research Category for the study titled “Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL) Cases in the Municipality of Gonzaga: An Assessment.”
The student proponents of the research were Liezel Joy Valle, Crizzelyn Marquez, Christna Jellhi Reyes, and Chris John Parado, under the mentorship of Dr. Ma. Theda Mercado.
Other studies presented during the search included “SAGIP: Smart AI-Powered Guidance for Identifying Pests,” under the Technological Research Category, from the College of Information and Computing Sciences. The proponents were Kim Terrence Quines, Guiellie Keit Lorenzo, Mark Jhon Saludares, and Rolan Obispo, with Dr. Verdict Gonzales as adviser.
For the Experimental/Applied Research Category, the study “Evaluating the Morphological and Physiological Yield Performance of Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) Cultivated in Diverse Soil Medium within Salinity Stress” was presented by Evangeline Reyes, with Dr. Jayrome Butay as adviser.
The annual event recognizes exemplary undergraduate researches and mentors whose outputs contribute to innovation, sustainable development, and institutional impact.
